ADV in MFW Week 1

Wow, what a great first week we had!  I like how nice and slow this curriculum starts out the "New" Year. This is a brief summary of what we did this week.  We started out by looking at the USA map and locating our State we live in.  Then identified all the bodies of water, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Great Lakes.

Our Bible lessons this year focus on the many names of Jesus.  The lesson started out with learning the meaning of our names.
We wrote letters to the kids about the meaning of their names and why we chose to name them those names.

A & M then copied the meanings of their names and drew self portraits.

We also learned about the Vikings, Eric the Red and Leif Ericsson, and his discovery of North America.

Science we are learning about density.  The egg on the left is floating in salt water and the one on the right is in regular tap water and sank.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Pumpkin Pancakes
Ingredients:
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
¼ teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 cup fat-free milk
½ cup canned pumpkin
¼ teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon canola oil

1. Put the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, and salt into a medium bowl.  Stir with a wooden spoon to mix.
2. Crack the egg into a small bowl.  Beat with a whisk until yolk and white are mixed.  Add the milk, pumpkin, vanilla and oil to egg.  Beat with the whisk until ingredients are well mixed.
3.  Add egg mixture to flour mixture.  Stir with a wooden spoon until dry ingredients are wet.  (the batter should be slightly lumpy, not smooth.)
4. Lightly coat a skillet with cooking spray.  Heat to medium.
5.  For each pancake, pour ¼ cup full of batter onto the hot skillet.  Cook over medium heat until pancakes have slightly bubbly surfaces and the edges are slightly dry, approx. 2 minutes.
6.  Turn pancakes over, cook until bottoms are golden brown.

(I serve pancakes with a dollop of whipped cream with cinnamon sprinkled on top. )

Enjoy~

Our "Not" back-to-school Vacation

We usually take a little trip the last week of Aug, beginning of Sept before our school year starts.  This year we went up to the Northern part of Wisconsin/UP Michigan.  We had beautiful weather. We relaxed, we played, we napped.
Beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods View

We had s'mores and stories by the
 campfire.

We hiked up in Bond Falls UP Michigan.

 We cuddled on the swing.

The boys water skied  & green-boarded.

We tubed and took boat rides around the lake.
